Knowledge Management in a Nuclear Research Centre

The new millennium has ushered in a new era of economy and development which is being referred as “Knowledge Economy”, in which knowledge is described as the critical competitive asset of any organization. In this era, it is the possession and application of scarce valuable knowledge that support long term superior organizational performance. Peter Drucker has recognized knowledge as a major resource in the 21 century. Quote “The basic economic resource the means of production is no longer capital, nor natural resources, nor labor. It is and will be knowledge." unquote. It is needless to emphasize that in R&D organizations involved in emerging and challenging technologies, knowledge is the biggest asset. Knowledge management is an evolving field. Though knowledge management is defined about four decades back, the last 10 years have seen a growing realization by the organizations about the importance of knowledge management and they are framing a strategy to convert the knowledge in to intellectual capital and leverage it for competitive advantage.
